What is an AOV actuator?

An AOV actuator is a means of automatically opening a window for natural ventilation or smoke ventilation when connected to one of our AOV control panels.

The most common types of AOV actuators used for windows are:

Chain Actuator / Chain Drives

Chain actuators (chain drives) are ideal for turning top, bottom and side hung windows into auto-opening vents (AOVs) for daily ventilation and smoke control.

Folding Arm Actuator

Folding arm actuators are ideal for smoke control systems by enabling wide opening angles for rooflights or heavier windows.

Electric Linear Actuator

Linear / spindle actuators are ideal for opening and closing the likes of top-hung outward windows, skylights, solar shading blades, domes, and more.

If you’re unsure of the benefits of each actuator and why you should choose one AOV actuator type over another, our Folding Arm, Linear, or Chain Drive Actuator: What Should You Choose blog post may help.

Alternatively, you can view our full range of AOV actuators for both daily ventilation and smoke control in our online shop, with most actuators available for next-day delivery.

Under the Construction Products Regulations (CPR) it is a legal requirement to use only certified products for smoke ventilation. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure installations meet the relevant standards. For more information see SCS Group’s Technical Bulletin.
